Please Help! My Hotmail account has been hacked!!!!?
First: Don't Panic.

It likely stems from a virus/worm/etc. that circulated through your MSN contacts -- not your Hotmail (assuming you use the same username for both). There's no one person behind it: it's an automated computer program that's interested in spamming people through your email.

If you've changed your password: good.

The culprit here is likely something called malware or spyware, that's somehow been installed on your computer. These things aren't anyone's fault: They can happen through regular web surfing. It's also very easy to fix.

Run an Anti-Virus program (Avast! is free, and good) and an anti-spyware program like Ad-Aware or Spybot. These will clear up your computer system.

Look at the email that was sent out. Type the subject line into Google, and you'll likely find other people who had the same problem as you. That should help you find a fix.
Reply:Well the receipts of online shopping wouldn't show the entire credit card number anyway as far as I'm aware.

To be honest with you, I don't think someone has got your Hotmail password or anything, but I would advise you to check your computer for a virus or spyware.

A friend of mine had a similar problem where everyone, including me received an email from her asking to click on some link to get a free watch?! Fortunately I didn't click on it, but I'm sure others did.

My advice would be to download AVG and check for viruses or spyware and hopefully that should get rid of anything on the computer and put your mind at rest.
Reply:Umm it is possible honey.

Check all your credit card statements and also don't close the e-mail account bc it can be used to maybe find the hacker. Also call the companys where something was bought from and ask about it.

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Call your credit card company ASAP! Fix any transactions you did not make!!!

Second, cancel your email account and see if you can report it. Make a new one and alert your contacts.

I'm sorry this happened, make sure that your identity has not been stolen!
Reply:contact hotmail and get them to investigate, if they come up with something, take it to the police. it sounds like someone has found a way to send emails from your account so they can spam others.
Reply:You're screwed. People can actually do alot with Hotmail accounts. Receipts usually block out the first 12 numbers, so don't worry.

He's got your passwords/site accounts, so I suggest removing credit cards and cancelling all the subscriptions you have.
Reply:recipets from shopping shouldnt have your CC #, but if you ever feel they are jeapordized get new ones! you did right thing by changing your password.. run Adaware and virus scans..

may the force be with u
Reply:OH CRAP! GET VIRUS GUARD

And is it ok to report Randy K...hes spamming the questions with his question
Reply:change your password and your security question
Reply:Go to the Yahoo Help webpage
Reply:I suspect someone managed to plant a malware on your computer that steals identity information, that is how they got your email account password and maybe your credit card number.

Or maybe you are lucky and it is just a malware/virus that hacks into email accounts to spread spam around.

That means you should not use your computer for accessing your hotmail or your bank accounts or credit card accounts. You will have to use a computer that has no malware on it.

Let's assume the worst has happened, your credit card number was stolen. Then :

Contact your credit card company now for a review of the most recent charges to your credit card account. You can do this over the phone, use the telephone number on the back of the card.

If unauthorized charges have been made to your credit card, you will have to cancel that card number NOW and have the credit card company suspend the suspect charges and send you a form letter to fill out for reporting fraudulent charges. Or you can wait for the statement to arrive in the mail if you get mailed statements.

Once you have the standard statement, you will have to make copies of it and get with the police to file a criminal report and an identity theft report. With the police report, you can then make copies and send one to the credit card company so they have it on record as to why you are protesting certain charges. From that information, the credit card company will charge back those purchases to the merchants that allowed them.

Everytime you contact someone about this, write down who you talked to, how you talked to them (in person, by phone, by email, by US Mail, etc) and keep a diary in case the credit card company should refuse to remove the fraudulent charges.

Let's hope for the best, that it was only spam-generating email !!
Reply:I dont trust Hotmail. I had an account there and hadn't checked it for many months, when I finally get on there, I had thousands of weird emails and sent emails I never sent, etc etc...Thank goodness I never used it for online shopping.

Ive never had a problem with yahoo.

The hackers may as well have your info! Check your credit card account see if you have any mysterious charges and then call your company and see what you should do. Maybe they can issue you a new one.

Good Luck
