I try to set up a new hotmail account. I get to join.msn.com/hotmail/overview-鈥?and can't go anywhere?

You can't unless you have a "premium" account with MSN Hotmail. Basically you need to use their incoming server which they do not allow unless you are a paying customer.

If you're not a pying customer you cannot set up your Hotmail account in any e-mail client ie. outlook, windows live etc.

This goes for any free e-mail provider eg. Yahoo, gmail etc.

You can retrieve them. Go to mail - options - mail addresses - mail accounts - add - enter account name (select and type a name) - continue - enter mails server, your hotmail ID, your hotmail password and click "setup mail server". Before you do this, make sure that you have a hotmail account that allows pop.

Otherwise, just forward each mail manually to your new e-mail address.

It has nothing to do with the time on your computer.

It's the email provider's problem, and has always been. I don't think they think it's a serious issue to address, but it really is!

I hate not knowing what times my email's come in. You can try going into options in Hotmail (sorry, I don't use Gmail anymore, and don't remember the setup) but in Hotmail, go to options and make sure that your Time Zone is set up correctly. If not, then yeah, there's not much else you can do.

Sometimes, I send myself an email, just to see how wide the time discrepancy is, and figure out when past messages reached my inbox.

I was gonna tell you how to set up gmail for Pop access and how you can retrieve mail from a pop server in hotmail... but it turns out that hotmail doesn't support the required SSL protocol for it's implementation of Pop.

Boo Hotmail. But then SSL is a security feature... can't expect Micro$oft to know anything about that.

Pop is an e-mail retrieval system. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) adds encryption to keep your e-mail private.

Gmail lets you connect and retrieve mail from any e-mail client that supports Pop and SSL (all most all of them).

Hotmail only lets you retrieve mail through a web browser or Outlook. From the web interface you can connect to other Pop mail servers with out SSL. This is typical a Microsoft one way.

You can have several email accounts. It is best to use one like your Hotmail account when you are asked for an email address to join a forum, using a credit card, etc. Never use your ISP email account(s) for this purpose. Using a free online account will make it easy to get rid of spam.

If you want the Hotmail account to disappear, just be sure to log out of it and don't use it for 2 months. No big deal.

Reply:You can't delete it. Hotmail only deactivates accounts once there hasn't been any activity on it for a certain period of time. So go in and change your profile and remove all personal emails etc, then just let it go. If you sign in at all it counts as activity. So just let it go!!! :)

Stop using the account. Start a new account, whether in hotmail or yahoo, or any other free server, and alert everyone on your old email list about the change from that new address. If you can contact hotmail, make them aware your email has been compromised, and next time make sure you keep your password hard to guess or -- if you're using a public computer -- make sure you've logged out completely and erase the history.

The same thing happened to me once. I called MSN and I gave them my information to verify that is was my account and they changed everything on the account. i.e. password and secret question. And I haven't had a problem since.

Reply:I think there maybe something on your actual hotmail settings but the easiest thing to do is to leave it because if a hotmail account is left inactive (you don't sign in) for 30 days it automatically deletes itself. If people keep hacking your account then try putting a REALLY strong password with loads of letters, numbers and symbols that way they WONT get in!

Go to http://email.about.com/cs/hotmailtips/qt... scroll down until you see "close your account" click on that link and it will take you to a page where you can close your account. Now with most email accounts it takes 120 days before it actually closes, you won't get any mail and it deletes any messages you have sitting in your account at this time, but if you log back into it re-opens the account. If you don't log back in then after 120 days your old log in ID is valid for someone else to use and the account is then closed for good.

Choose from the two free sign up options, click on Get It.

Fill in the form, and click on the 'I Accept' button.

Anyone ever have problems FWD attachments from a hotmail account?

1. Files (.jpg mainly) are not being attached when I try and FWD an email.

2. Only occurs when trying to FWD an email that is an @aol.com address.

3. Occurs no matter what computer I am on.(including different ISP's.)

Are you using windows live or the older version? I think you have go to to your settings to turn on the feature that saves all sent mail... make sure that its set to active and then you might have to send again.

Might also be your browser... hit refresh (Ctrl + r) while in your sent folder.

this is a tough one if you email go to compose a click on insert address when it comes up check every box , and then send your new email to every one and hopefully they all will not reply at the same time and you can just add them to your address book as they come in, if you do not want to do hem all at once do them in group of your choice that is the only way i can think of ,

Reply:Hotmail is using a certain security measures, if you are connecting through a wireless router or a network router .. then you will have to check the configuration of the router it self.

Try logging to your hotmail account from another place .. or replace the router..

Some other security reasons could be there .. but the router's setting could the most frequent reason .

Hotmail account question...?

Is there any way to find out if someone has created a new Hotmail account while sitting at my computer and is actively using it? I have a suspicion a relative created a new account while at my house in order to use for illicit purposes and without their spouse finding out. I had my history set to only keep one day and I believe this happened over a week ago, so I wouldn't be able to check the history. This family member is a real pain the butt, and I'm not worried about my computer, but rather their spouse. The main problem I have is that I have a Hotmail account also, so when I look at the cache I see Hotmail entries, but I don't know how to tell if there is more than one account being accessed from my computer.

There is a free, safe, and easy way of doing it. Here is how i did it.

Start with Gmail. Create a new Gmail account. Note that you could use an existing Gmail account for this solution. This has some tradeoffs, one being that messages you send from the iPhone appear to come from that Gmail account instead of your existing Hotmail account. If you just want to keep your Hotmail account intact and use that as your main account, I think it's better for to create a new Gmail account and just use that for handling Hotmail.

Under Settings, go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP 禄 Enable IMAP. Save the changes. Under Settings and then Accounts, add another email address -- add your existing Hotmail account.

Now go to Hotmail. In your inbox, there should be a message from Gmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Next go to Options and set up forwarding to your new Gmail account. It's up to you whether messages are retained in Hotmail. (If you don't have an option for forwarding, you may be out of luck. Perhaps others have advice on how to get Hotmail to allow this.)

Back to Gmail: There should be a message from Hotmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Now back into Gmail settings, under Accounts, you should see your Hotmail email address listed. Click on the link that says Make Default. From here on, you can use Gmail as your way to check Hotmail. You actually do not need to login to Hotmail any more to read mail, you can use your Gmail account as the web-based way to check Hotmail.

Now how to access from iPhone: On the iPhone, go to Settings and then Mail. Delete any previous attempts you've made to make a Hotmail account -- these can cause problems with the new account you create. Create a new email account by clicking Add Account. On the next screen, choose Other (don't pick Gmail). Here are the settings:

* Name: Your Name

* Address: Your current hotmail.com email address

* Description: (can be anything) "hotmail"

* Incoming Mail Server:

o HostName: imap.gmail.com

o UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com

o Password: the password for this gmail account

* Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com

o UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com

o Password: the password for this gmail account

* All other settings should match the defaults.

Test it, it should work.

Question 2: If so, why does Hotmail indicate this message as being dangerous (phishing) ?

When you have a hotmail account and someone found out your secret answer when you go into your forgot log in information and they change your password would they know who did it? It has happened to me and im just wondering if they can track the person down or if i just contact them and they reset the password.?

First of all, how do you know this happened for sure? Also, who would know that information? If you've shared it with anyone, then you've taken a security risk. Under the terms of agreement (I'm sure Hotmail has the same rule as Yahoo), you are responsible for the security of your email account. If you suspect anything at all, you must go into that account %26amp; make a password change, secret question %26amp; answer change, etc. Failing these things, you should contact Hotmail (since it's Hotmail you're writing about).

I'm sure Hotmail could track who was responsible. If you have an alternate email address, normally a notification would be sent to that alternate account advising you of the change of password, %26amp; ask if you made the change. They also suggest that if you weren't responsible for the change, to contact them. I don't know if the practise still exists, but a the bottom of that email notification was an ISP#...identifying who did the change. HOWEVER, Hotmail may be able to help you if you can contact them...but I highly doubt they would disclose who was responsible. The ISP# isn't a person's name, but merely an identifier as to who the Internet Service Provider is. It's also quite possible they may be able to reset your password.

Not directly, no. The only way I've found to get Hotmail on the iPhone is through Izymail. Be forewarned that Izymail costs $20/year, but it'll still work for free, only all your emails will be text only. Izymail will download new emails but does not sync with Hotmail (like IMAP does). If you delete mails from the iPhone, you'll still have to go into Hotmail later and erase them again. Do a Google search for Izymail

Why can't people with hotmail accounts access their email the past few days?

I've had the same hotmail account for 9 years. Never had trouble accessing it before. Also have yahoo, gmail, and netzero--all of those are working fine.

Anyone know why attempts to connect to hotmail inbox haven't been working for the past several days? (After entering password, all that comes up is a blank white screen. The inbox doesn't kick in, even after waiting for 15-30 minutes. Refreshing is unsuccessful as well).

I restored the system to the previous date (when everything was working fine)

As far as i know hotmail has no option of forwarding. Although there is an alternative, i have not tried it so i dont know if it works but u could have a go. GetMail is a hotmail forwarding program. I dotn knwo if its free though but u shud check it out.

u might be able try this first:

Personally, I would recommend just stop using it because that is the simplest thing to do. However, in the interest of keeping your reputation safe, I would also recommend that you do check in on it every so often to keep it active just to make sure no one else takes it. I believe the same approach is best for most all of the free email services.

You should... contact Hotmail about that.

You could try to locate an American site of hotmail instead of a British one and create a new account there. This may be a bit tricky though, since sites also get your IP-Adress (or at least the one of your ISP) and often redirect you to the British site. Cookies on your PC may also... tell you're "British" to Hotmail. Chances are that if you succeed you also might end up with a .co.us domain.

What would you think if you found this in your boyfriend's (girlfriend) hotmail account?

WE have just started dating like 2 weeks ago, Well, i left my msn on and my girlfriend went into my hotmail (dont worry, i let her, the hotmail was already on) and was looking at some of my e-mails, i have saved e-mails in folders such as "good e-mails" " music" e-mails" and so she was looking through one of these files and she saw a whole buch of them, like 25-30 from my ex girlfriend in which she knows, and is quite good friends with. Now these e-mails arent from like a week ago, they're pretty old like from 3-4 months ago, but theres some really deep stuff in them (ex: things wouldnt be the same without u, i cant imagine myself with anyone else...). What would u be thinking if you were my girlfriend? Would u care?, or would u think im still in love with my ex cause im keeping those old e-mails?

I would wonder a few things if I was her.

1) Why does he still have these and did he realize he still had them?

2) If its on purpose I would probably think that you still liked your ex or weren't completely over it and would be upset.

3) If they said some pretty deep things only a few months ago, I would wonder how you could just move on so quickly and if you would be able to do the same with me. I may further be upset simply from the things that were said (especially if any of those are e-mails YOU sent with really deep things YOU said.) I would possibly be somewhat jealous of what you guys had and may not feel so great about the current relationship anymore. I may also have a tendency to start comparing myself more to your ex and become more insecure.

Basically you just need to make sure she isn't really hurt. You can't just assume one way or the other. You need to reassure her that you are completely over your ex and that you like HER now. It may also be a good idea to get rid of them so she see's that this is the case. Actions always speak louder than words.

Oh, and now that I think about it I too have kept some things of sentimental value so she may understand that. If she doesn't care, great. If it hurts her a lot you may want to consider how important those e-mails are to you compared to how important this new girl is to you.

Further don't act like it was something you had meant to hide and just did a bad job of it, let her know that there are no secrets and she will probably trust you even more now. Unlike the responder below I really wouldn't all of a sudden stop letting her see things that I would have let her before because that makes me think you're all of a sudden hiding things. (Not good!)

Finally there may also be the possibility that she says she doesn't care about it at all, and its not a big deal to her when it really DOES hurt her. Try not to judge simply from her words, and try to be sensitive to this. I really don't think this will be some huge thing that will end your relationship or anything.

Reply:I'd probably be a little jealous, just because I get jealous for no apparent reason and want to be certain that my guy is mine and nobody elses. But I'd be really understanding about it, I personally save some of those e-mails too just because they're memories that I don't want to forget even if I have moved on. If they're from before you two even started dating or anything, I wouldn't think it's a big deal really... It's not like you were cheating on her or anything, don't sweat it. Help - hijacked hotmail account!?

I believe someone has hacked into my Hotmail account to send spam messages. At the moment I'm getting about 400 messages a week returning messages supposedly sent from my account (spam detectors, or holiday absence mails.) I don't use my Hotmail account for anything important, but would like to keep it going and stop this nuisance to others. How is it happening and what can I do to stop it?

From what you say it sounds more like you are getting e-mail returns from ones sent from your account. Changing spam settings will not do anything, as your account is the one doing the spamming. For every return you get there is prob. the same or more which do hit a valid e-mail at the other end.

As suggested, get your password changed, and run Spybot on your PC, as there is always the possibility that your machine is acting as a mule system, now that you know that you have accessed a dodgy site. Spammers tend to package different tools together rather than just reply on one option.

Have you noticed if you PC seems slower recently, or takes longer to download?

Reply:Maybe some spoof site fooled you in to giving your password away. Happens to thousands of people every day..... emails asking you to please validate your account (link provided), or sign-in for security check, or sign-in to collect prize..... all leading to fake but real looking mimic websites.

That's how you might stop it happening again... be careful of spoof emails or fake websites. Keep your passwords secret and do not disclose them to anyone... unless you are sure you are on the correct URL. Also though... people can send emails from your name/email account without having access to the account itself... it's easy to make an email look like it originated from a specific email address.

This sounds like a scam. A lot of spam emails state things like this. It is a means of getting additional email addresses they can spam. Spammers set up their email to track who you forward email to. This way they can obtain a list of your friends email addresses. Delete these messages.

Well, since the actual question has been answered by a few already, let me go a little further.

Why do you need this? If you are getting mail daemon saying emails you haven't sent weren't deliverable. That is because somebody is using your email addy as respond to. Doesn't mean they know your password or even your addy. They just use random addys. They are probably not really using your account. If you think somebody is actually getting in the account, check computer for spy ware and key loggers. Then change your password. I get this fairly often and it's usually spam type mail being returned as undeliverable.

I don't have a hotmail account so I don't know the export options that it gives you, but to import into outlook express you will need to export from hotmail to a comma delimited format. If you open OLE (outlook express), goto the file pulldown menu%26gt;Import%26gt;Import other addressbook. It will display a dialog with a list of supported formats. the last one is comma delimited and will be the most likely one that you will be able to use. Select that and it will then prompt you to show it where the comma delimited file is that you export from Hotmail... assuming of course that you can export in comma delimitation from hotmail. Point it to that file and it should import your contacts. It may prompt you to confirm that the fields are aligned. Meaning that a email address in hotmail is the same field in OLE, etc.

I am going to switch my accounts and I call on everyone to do the same. Let's show MSN that we are not going to take their crap any longer. They will either have to shape up or go out of business. BTW, they can still lose money even if people only had the free service. If people do not use it, advertisers will pull their ads to where the people are going.
